May 24, 2010

Cindy met Gary at the stables after work. Gary was putting LBR's saddle on by the time she arrived.

Cindy led LBR to the sand arena and they started off their ride with some walking and bending exercises. LBR was more tense today than he has been in a long time. Cindy trotted him for a while but he would not settle.

She decided that lounging might help so Gary lunged him for a while at the walk/trot/canter. He eventually focused, but not quite 100%.

Cindy then rode him for about 10 minutes at the walk/trot and LBR settled down. They ended the time in the arena with Cindy dismounting at the far end and leading LBR out of the arena. It was then that she figured out what was wrong.

The trainer and some of the boarders hauled horses to an eventing farm for a ride the previous day. The trailer was parked next to/near the sand arena. LBR was sure that there were eight new horses on that trailer.

Cindy led him to and around the trailer to show him that it was empty and he calmed down instantly....head dropping close to the ground.

After that, Cindy detacked and groomed LBR before Gary joined them for the walk to the paddock and treats.
